The Australian Physiotherapy Entry Pathway (APEP) is the updated assessment pathway designed by the Australian Physiotherapy Council that allows internationally trained physiotherapists to practice in Australia. Applicable from 1st October 2025, this updated pathway is more flexible due to its remote assessments and no clinical exam. APEP ensures that you enter the Australian healthcare system as a confident, safe, and practice-ready physiotherapist easy and fast.

4. Clinical Workshop
The Clinical Workshop is the final stage before receiving your Final Certificate. It is a one-day, in-person, hands-on training held at the Council’s Melbourne office: Level 4, 304 Burwood Road, Hawthorn, Victoria

Candidates must bring professional indemnity insurance. Free coverage is available via associate membership with the Australian Physiotherapy Association. Upon successful completion, you become eligible for the Final Certificate, the gateway to registration and work opportunities in Australia.
Unlike the standard assessment pathway, now you don’t have to go to Australia for the exam. You can sit at home and complete your written assessment. Moreover, the clinical exam is also not needed to qualify APEP. It is a rather simplified pathway with which you can get your license easily in Australia to practice as a physiotherapist.
Any overseas-trained physiotherapist with at least a diploma-level qualification and unrestricted registration in their home country or the legal ability to practise without restriction where no regulator exists is eligible to apply.
The Written Assessment is an online knowledge exam that tests clinical decision-making, problem-solving and understanding of the Physiotherapy Practice Thresholds. It can be taken remotely or at assessment venues in Melbourne and Sydney. A practice test and an information booklet are provided for preparation.
The Capability Assessment is a remote, open-book, oral examination lasting about 1.5 hours. It presents three short cases and one long case to assess communication skills, clinical reasoning, risk identification, management strategies and professional behaviour.
The Clinical Workshop is a one-day, face-to-face training and assessment session held in Melbourne. Candidates participate in hands-on sessions, simulated scenarios and practical skill demonstrations to confirm their readiness for safe clinical practice in Australia.
