  • He completed his Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honors) from the University of Zimbabwe. Later, he pursued his Masters in Medicine from the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, China, with Plant Pharmacology as a specialisation. 
  • Roy has extended experience, including 7 years of experience as a Zimbabwean regulator of the Medicines Control Authority of Zimbabwe. Later, he started working as a lecturer at the University of Zimbabwe.
  • Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. from Southern Cross University in New South Wales.
  • Roy has also successfully cleared the KAPS exam.

About The Oman Prometric Examination

What is the Oman Prometric Exam?

The Omani Examination for Pharmacists (OPE) or the Oman Medical Speciality Board (OMSB) Prometric exam is a registration examination for foreign-trained pharmacists who are seeking registration in Oman. Oman is one of the best countries for pharmacists, as it offers several benefits such as high salaries, good work-life balance and a tax-free income. This easy exam can help you get a job and visa in Oman.

Oman Prometric Exam Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Omani Examination for Pharmacists, a pharmacist must meet the following criteria-

  • A pharmacy degree (B.Pharm, PharmD or M.Pharm)
  • Registration as a pharmacist  in home country
  • A continuous experience of 3 years or more in a hospital or retail pharmacy without any gap
  • No language requirements
Procedure for Oman Prometric

1. Document Verification- In this step, your credentials and documents are validated by the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) and Dataflow Group. This is also known as the PSV procedure, and it is mandatory to be able to take the exam. 

2. Oman Prometric Exam Registration for Pharmacists- Register for the exam by scheduling an online test. After completing the Primary Source Verification (PSV), you will be provided with an Eligibility Number, which you have to use to book your test through the Oman Prometric website. 

3. Visa Filing- After clearing the exam, you must find a job in Oman, which you can find online from your home country. Post that, you need to get documents attested by the Oman embassy in your country and then you will be granted a visa. 

4. Viva Exam- When you reach Oman, your employer will sponsor your accommodation and food while you prepare for the viva exam. After passing the viva, you can get registered as a pharmacist in Oman.

Exam Format

The exam is conducted in MCQ format that contains questions from 4 sections, which are-

  1. Basic Biomedical Sciences – 15 Questions
  2. Pharmaceutical Sciences – 53 Questions
  3. Social/Behavioral/Administrative Sciences – 30 Questions
  4. Clinical Sciences – 52 Questions

The duration of the exam for 150 MCQs is of 3 hours.

Passing criteria: To be eligible for licensure a candidate must secure 60% in a Oman prometric exam for pharmacists that is 90 correct MCQs out of 150.

Testing Centres

You can take the Omani exam for pharmacists (OPE) at your nearest Oman Prometric Test Centre. In India, there are several centres in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Kerala, Mumbai, Kochi, Trivandrum and more.

The Omani Pharmacist Exam is another name for the Oman prometric exam which is an exam that allows global pharmacists in practising as a registered pharmacist in Oman.

The steps to register for the OPE include document evaluation, prometric exam, applying for a visa and viva examination.

To be eligible for becoming a pharmacist in Oman, one must be a graduate with a pharmacy degree (B. pharm, M.pharm, Pharm D and Ph. D) and must possess 3 years of continuous work experience in retail or hospital pharmacy. 

The OPE exam syllabus includes topics such as Pharmaceutical Science, Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmacokinetics and Biopharmaceutic, Toxicology and Poison Management, Pharmaceutical Jurisprudence and Ethics, Public Health and Epidemiology, Drug Information and Evidence-Based Practice, Pharmaceutical Care in Special Populations and Quality Assurance and Pharmacy Management.

There are several pharmacy books that can help you excel in each topic of the OPE. However, seeing the difficulty level of the examination it is recommended to take a structured course from experienced faculties to excel in exam.

To excel in the Omani pharmacist exam, study the exam course in detail, appear for the test with confidence, and practice thoroughly. 

To qualify in Oman Prometric Exam for pharmacists, candidates must score at least 90 out of 150, which means a passing criterion of 60%. 

The Omani Pharmacist Exam is conducted 3-4 times in a month at registered prometric centres across the world. 

The common challenge for pharmacists taking the Omani Pharmacist Exam is the requirement of an experience of 3 years in the home country.

After clearing the exam, one can work in different domains and roles such as Community Pharmacist, Hospital Pharmacist, Clinical Pharmacist, Consultant Pharmacist and many more.
