Why Should You Take the PSI Equivalence Exam?

The PSI Equivalence Exam is a gateway for global pharmacists to work in Ireland. This exam tests the competence of pharmacists who have completed their studies and their training from countries outside the European Union and are willing to practise pharmacy in Ireland. 

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland is the public body that regulates and oversees the registration process for pharmacists in Ireland. Clearing this exam allows pharmacists to migrate, practice and settle as a registered pharmacist in Ireland
 

PSI Equivalence Eligibility Criteria?

Stage 1: Internal Review
PSI checks your eligibility and ensures all required documents are submitted. Applications are classified as Complete, Incomplete, or Invalid.
Fee: €500

Stage 2: Holistic Assessment
External assessors review your qualifications, training, and professional experience to determine equivalence to Irish pharmacy standards. Applicants may be exempt from exams (Path A) or proceed to examination (Path B).
Fee: €1,000

Stage 3A / 4B: Certificate of Qualification
Upon successful completion of all required stages, PSI issues a Certificate of Qualification Appropriate for Practice, enabling you to apply for registration as a pharmacist in Ireland.
Fee: Included in previous stages

Stage 3B: Examination Stage
Applicants with gaps identified in Stage 2 complete an aptitude test, including MCQ and OSCE, to demonstrate competence for practice in Ireland. Only the components relevant to your deficits are required.
Fee: €3,000

The eligibility criteria for the PSI Equivalence exams is mentioned below-

  • Hold a pharmacy qualification from a non-EU/EEA country.
  • Complete full pharmacy education and training required in the qualifying country.
  • Qualification must entitle practice as a pharmacist in the country where it was obtained.
  • Be recognized as a pharmacist by the relevant authority in that country.
  • Eligible to practice pharmacy in the qualifying country, even if not currently registered.
  • Eligibility must be confirmed through an official certificate or letter from the competent authority (e.g., professional status or qualification confirmation).
