What is FMGE?
Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) is also known as MCI screening test. It is a medical registration exam for overseas-trained doctors/medical graduates who want to practice in India. The NBE conducts this exam twice in a year.
Note: The National Exit Test will replace both FMGE and NEET PG exams in future.
Exam Date: January 17, 2026 (Tentative)
Mode: Computer-based
Total Questions: 300 MCQs
Duration: Two sessions, 150 mins each
Negative Marking: None
Passing Marks: 150 out of 300
Who can appear for FMGE?
If you’re an Indian citizen or an OCI cardholder and have earned your primary medical qualification (MBBS or equivalent) from abroad, you must clear the FMGE to practice in India.
Who can be exempted from FMGE?
You’re not required to appear for FMGE if your degree is from:
- USA
- UK
- Australia
- Canada
- New Zealand
This exemption exists because degrees from these countries are automatically recognised in India.
