The process of taking the AMC exam and attaining registration as a doctor in Australia involves several sequential steps that need to be carefully followed.
1. Document Evaluation The first step is to get your documents verified by the Australian Medical Council. This further involves two steps.
a. Create an EPIC Account
The AMC utilises the EPIC platform to validate and approve the authenticity of your medical credentials. The ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) provides this service.
To begin the process, create your EPIC account. ECFMG is expected to furnish your EPIC ID within 2–3 business days. After obtaining your EPIC ID, as you upload each qualification onto your EPIC account
b. Create an AMC Account and Establish an AMC Portfolio
Having an AMC candidate account is essential to facilitate the exchange of information and documents between you and the AMC and grant access to candidate services. With this account, it is possible to create a Portfolio for assessment.
2. AMC 1- MCQ Exam
The AMC MCQ exam is a computer-administered test that assesses the knowledge of the principles and practice of medicine in the fields of general practice, internal medicine, paediatrics, psychiatry, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology.
3. English Proficiency
After completing AMC 1 and during the visa processing phase, demonstrating proficiency in the English language is crucial. Achieving satisfactory scores in English proficiency tests like IELTS, PTE, or OET facilitates a smoother process.
4. AMC Clinical Exam/Workplace-based Assessment
The AMC clinical exam is conducted to evaluate clinical skills in medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics and psychiatry, along with the candidate’s ability to communicate with patients, their families and other health workers.
Another option is the workplace-based assessment, which requires the candidate to be registered with the Medical Board of Australia before applying directly to a WBA provider.
