About The ADC Dentist

What is the ADC Dentist

There are plenty of career opportunities in store for overseas dentists in Australia. Skilled and qualified dentists worldwide can become registered dentists in Australia and contribute to dental and oral health in the country.

Clearing the ADC exam is the first step to landing a dentist job in Australia. Both written and practical examinations must be successfully completed before the candidate applies for registration with the Dental Board of Australia.

You need not fly to Australia to attend the written exam as there are exam centres in different cities around the world. However, the practical examinations are conducted in Australia. Once the assessments are cleared, you may apply for a work/PR visa.

ADC Dentist Exam Eligibility Criteria

There is a procedure known as the initial assessment that checks the eligibility of the candidates to sit the ADC exam. Professional qualifications, registration history, etc. are assessed during this time. Work experience is not mandatory but can be beneficial.

The eligibility to appear for the exam is mentioned below-

  • A four-year, full-time university dental degree or diploma, from a recognised university.
  • Full and unrestricted registration in your home country or country of training, with no withdrawal of the registration.
Procedure for ADC Dentist

The procedure to take the ADC exam and become a registered dentist in Australia can be broadly divided into 4 steps, which are mentioned below-

1)ADC Initial Assessment

The first step of the procedure is the initial assessment by the Australian Dental Council. This process will check if your educational background, registration history, good standing, etc., fit the eligibility criteria for the ADC written exam. An ADC Connect account must be created for this.

2)ADC Written Examination

The written examination is the next step for becoming a dental practitioner in Australia. The ADC written exam evaluates the knowledge of the science and practice of dentistry along with clinical judgement and reasoning required to practise in an Australian setting.

3)English proficiency

During the migration process, proficiency in the English language is mandatory. This can be done by taking English proficiency tests such as IELTS/PTE/OET. Adequate scores in these exams can lead to a smoother visa application process.

4)ADC Practical Examination

The practical examination is the final step of the process. This takes place in Australia over two days. One day is for the evaluation of technical skills and the other for clinical skills.

Exam Format

The ADC exam is divided into two parts: the ADC written exam and the ADC practical exam.
While the written exam can be attended from the exam centres in India, the practical exams need to be taken from Australia.
The practical exam is conducted over two days in which the first day is assigned for assessing technical skills and the second day is assigned for assessing clinical skills.

Testing Centres

The ADC exam has various centres across India including the following cities. Hyderabad Pune Surat Ahmedabad Mumbai Noida Chennai Bangalore Gurugram Jalandhar Amritsar
