OPRA Exam in Australia and New Zealand

For pharmacists wanting to work in Australia and New Zealand, the Overseas Pharmacists Readiness Assessment (OPRA) exam is the main assessment. It has replaced the KAPS exam from March 2025. It tests the candidates in biomedical, pharmaceutical, and clinical sciences specifically for Australian pharmacy practice.

The OPRA exam is administered by the Australian Pharmacy Council in Australia and the Pharmacy Council of New Zealand in New Zealand.

International students must pass the OPRA Exam and get registered in the respective countries to practise as a pharmacist and enjoy the benefits.

The PSI Equivalence Exam is for people wanting to work in Ireland. It is designed for pharmacists who obtained their qualifications outside the European Union or the European Economic Area. It is conducted by the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI). This exam assesses the pharmacists' education, training, and qualifications. If they meet the standards required for practice in Ireland, they can get a license.

Note that only pharmacists with a 5 or 6-year degree (eg, PharmD) are eligible for this exam.
