So, what decides the cut-off? Let us take a look.
- If the paper is tougher, the cut-off generally goes lower. If it is easier, the cut-off rises.
- A higher number of test-takers increases competition, which can raise the cut-offs.
- More seats can lower the cut-off, while fewer seats push it higher.
- If a larger proportion of candidates score high marks, the cut-off rises.
- Year-on-year trend, as past cut-offs act as a benchmark
- Normalization & percentile system
- Institutional admission demands
