About The NCLEX Examination

What is the NCLEX Exam?

There is a high demand for nurses in Australia and other such countries. To meet the shortage of staff, the governments of countries like Australia, the US, Canada, the Netherlands etc invite registered nurses from all parts of the world.

To get a job as a nurse in your preferred country, you need to clear the NCLEX exam. The National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is monitored by Pearson VUE and assesses the skills and expertise of a registered nurse.

The Pearson VUE NCLEX exam is your gateway to prove your excellence and start working as a registered nurse in countries like Australia, the US, the Netherlands, Canada, etc.

This online exam can be cleared in your home country, and you can apply for a work/PR visa once you clear this exam.

NCLEX Exam Eligibility Criteria

Any person who has completed a 4-year nursing degree in their home country or any other country, and is a registered nurse in that country, can apply for the NCLEX exam. Absolutely no experience is required, but if you have any experience, it is considered a plus point. In pointers, the eligibility to appear for the exam is mentioned below-

  • Bachelor of Nursing or any other relevant 4-year degree.
  • Registration as a nurse from the concerned authority in your home or any other country.
Procedure for NCLEX

The procedure to take the NCLEX exam and become a registered nurse in the country of your choice can be broadly divided into 4 steps, which are mentioned below-

 1. Initial Assessment

The first step of the process is the Initial Assessment- the part where the concerned state authority (generally the National Council of State Boards of Nursing) will analyse whether you are eligible to conduct the NCLEX exam or not.

You need to fill up an online form, and once your application is approved, you can give the NCLEX exam at your nearest centre.

 2. NCLEX MCQ Exam

NCLEX is an online exam, which you can give anytime, anywhere. There are no specific dates, but once you get approval on the initial assessment from the respective authority, you must try to take the exam as soon as possible.

The Pearson NCLEX exam contains questions in MCQ format, which you have to answer to qualify for the exam with a minimum score of 75 out of 145.

 3. English Proficiency

The next step of the process is proving your English proficiency. This can be done by clearing English exams such as IELTS/PTE/TOEFL/OET, etc., whatever the country you are applying to accepts.

Clearing the English exam with a minimum band helps you in your visa application.

 4. OSCE Exam

This is the last step of the procedure- a practical exam that you need to clear to prove your excellence as a registered nurse. This exam is conducted by the nursing board of the country you are applying to, such as the Nursing and Midwifery Board in Australia.

After clearing this practical exam, you can go forth with your work/PR visa application, and migrate to the country of your choice as a registered nurse!

Exam Format

The NCLEX MCQ exam is divided into three parts and can have questions ranging between 75 to 256. Getting 75 marks is enough to qualify for the exam. The three levels of the exam are described as follows-

Level 1- Knowledge and understanding

Level 2- Analysis and application

Level 3- Qualitative and aptitude

If you live in India, there is a high chance that an NCLEX testing centre is present within a 250 km radius of your home. There are 5 major Pearson professional centres for NCLEX testing in India, which include Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai.
