If you want to work as a doctor in Kuwait, you’ll need to pass the Kuwait Medical License Exam (KMLE). This exam is managed by the Ministry of Health. The exam is to test whether you’re ready to safely and confidently treat patients in the country.

It’s not just about what you know; the KMLE checks your clinical knowledge, decision-making, and how well you understand the healthcare system in Kuwait. Once you pass, you’re eligible to apply for a license to practice as a doctor in the country.

Exam Eligibility Criteria

To sit for the KMLE, you must have the following:

  • Medical Degree: You must have graduated from a medical college that’s recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO). You should also hold a valid license from your home country.
  • Internship: You should have completed a one-year internship or house job.
  • Work Experience:
    • If you’re applying as a General Practitioner (GP), you’ll need at least 3 years of clinical experience after finishing your degree.
    • If you have 6 or more years of clinical experience, you may not have to take the exam at all.

The first step is to complete DataFlow verification. In this, your medical degree, license, internship, and experience documents will be verified directly from the source.

Step 3: Take the KMLE

The KMLE is a computer-based test. It is a multiple-choice question exam that happens in two sessions.

Interview (for non-Kuwaiti doctors): Once you clear the written exam, you’ll need to attend a personal interview at the Ministry of Health before getting your license.

Finally, after passing the exam, you have to apply for registration with the Kuwait Ministry of Health.
